Ayurveda is the ancient medicine of India, and means the “science of life/living” (ayu: life, veda: knowledge/science). It deals with health maintenance, life expansion (anti-aging/longevity techniques) and disease management. It is a holistic system of healthcare - physical, mental and spiritual.
Ayurvedic Massage is generally gentle, flowing and non-invasive.
Oil (herbalised) may be used to protect the skin and tissues.
Gentle enough to be suitable for oncology massage.
Gentle enough for “lubricating” the joints and strengthen the skin.
Regular massage “purifies” the body, soothes aches & pains, eases tension & stiffness, reduces fatigue, increases energy, improves eyesight, removes excess ‘wind’ and relaxes the mind.
Marma Points
Marma means ‘secret/hidden’, and there are 108 marma points in the body. They are “the junction point between matter and consciousness” says Deepak Chopra. “Marma is that place which has unusual throbbing and pain on touch. The marmas (vital points) are so called because they cause death, and they are the meeting place of muscles, bones, tendons, arteries, veins & joints. Life entirely resides in them” says the Astanga Hrdayam
Marma Point Massage
Along the way, stopping and revitalising specific marma points (similar to pressure points) to promote health, release blockages, enhance the flow of energy and generate wellbeing. Oil (herbalised) may be used to protect the skin and tissues and to “lubricate” the joints.
